With the weather outside looking grey and dull, as well as being freezing cold, I’m sure some of you can relate to my desire to crawl into my comfiest clothing which just happen to be tones of grey and black. But this winter I have been experimenting with using a bold lipstick in order to add colour to any look. I’ve found that all the lipsticks that I mention below can be used with natural eye makeup looks as well as a little more smokey eye type of look.
Essence Liquid Lipstick
Colour: 06 Make A Statement
This lipstick is one that goes on like a lip gloss with a long pointed applicator. It’s a really smooth consistency that dries a semi-matte. In this range there are 5 other colours which range from a light brown nude to a deep plum.
Make a statement is a deep pink which I find a perfect complement to my pale skin. The liquid lipstick glides onto the lips well, leaving a nice even finish. It is a lipstick that I finds lasts a significant period of time. I can put it on before work and it will still be there a couple of hours later, (in a thinner layer but still completely covering my lips). After about 5 hours I find that the lipstick wears off and needs to be re-applied. It is also a colour that I find works with a smokey eye as well as a more nude looking eye. I have worn this both on nights out where my makeup is a bit heavier and on a day-to-day basis.
The only downfall to this lipstick is the fact that it takes quite a while to dry. I often end up with lipstick streaks down the sides of my mouth due to my hair getting stuck in the lipstick while it’s still drying and then transferring the colour to my skin. This only really happens within the first hour and then it is fine after that. So I suggest putting this on an hour before you leave to go anywhere, and just before you leave double check that there isn’t any colour on your face outside your lips!
Revlon Colourburst Matte Balm
Colour: 205 Elusive Insaisissable
Oh my gosh, this is a holy grail of my lipsticks. I use it all year round, but for winter it is perfectly matched with a darker smokey eye look. This colour in particular just brightens up a whole look, while still complimenting my pale skin. It is super easy to apply as it is in a pen-type form which allows you to have more control over the colour and enables you to create a sharp line around your lips without concealer.
Since it is a balm it feels incredible on the lips, which means that it is super hydrating on the lips. If you quite often get chapped lips like me, I would recommend using the product as it glide on smoothly and doesn’t seep into the cracks of the lips, all while rehydrating your lips.
In the colour burst matte range there are 8 different colours which can complement any skin tone and type. Although the range then has a ‘Lacquer Balm’ sister, I find this formula is not as long lasting or complimentary to as many different looks since it is more glossy. So I would definitely say try the Matte Balms over the Lacquer Balms.
Napoleon Perdis Mattetastic Lipstick
This lipstick is more of a high end product, but I would certainly suggest that if you have the money, spend it on this lipstick! Lana is a deep pink toned lipstick which compliments pale skin amazingly. I have used this lipstick at least once a week for the past three years and I still have so much product left to use. The product glides on nicely with a very pigmented finish. In order to use it for winter I put about two layers of the lipstick on to create a darker finish which can complement all make up looks.
This lipstick was originally given to me as a complimentary lipstick, and I honestly love it. I have not heard many reviews on this lipstick, but I’m really glad I have this lipstick. It is my go-to colour and often sits in my bag for any occasion. It is a super long lasting lipstick that lasts through eating even the messiest foods, which is a lipstick that every make-up wearer needs!
These lipsticks are incredible and are ones that stay in my bag for all occasions. Each one of them are super long lasting and I believe that they would suit everyone and anyone. They are all different tones of pinks, but I find they are the most accommodating to all occasions which I love!
Have any of you tried these lipsticks? What are some of your go to lipsticks for winter? Let me know down in the comments!!
