An open letter to men that think women want sleezy comments.
October 22, 2018
To the men that think its ok to make sleezy comments about a womans appearance, it's not. It's harassment.
Ive never really experienced sleezy comments about the way I look or dress but today I've hit my limit.
Let me paint a picture for you. Im in a red dress. Nothing short or revealing; a simple red dress that's about knee length. It's what I call my comfy dress. Im in flats, walking back to the office. I'm also 20 years old.
I'm happily walking, enjoying the beautiful sunshine. Then a middle aged man, say 35 to 40, thinks it's appropriate to make a comment about how I look. A sleezy, inapporpriate, disgusting comment. A comment of harassment.
It's one thing to flirt. To engage in a conversation that is welcomed by BOTH parties. It's also another thing to compliment someone. A simple "hi i just wanted to stop you and let you know that your dress is beautiful".
Comments about how "you would do" are not acceptable. They are disgusting and not wanted.
For any male out there that can explain to me why men believe this is ok, or what goes through a males mind when they decide to make these harrasing comments, please message me. I am honestly so curious as to how anyone could think comments like that are accepted.
